My doctoral project, which began in October 2025, is entitled “MoA elucidation of novel antibiotical agents targeting/interfering with cell wall biosynthesis” and deals with elucidating the mechanism of action of novel antibiotic structures. The focus is on the investigation of complex polyketides, in particular lysolipin and its derivatives. The aim is to systematically evaluate the antibacterial potential of these substances and to identify their mechanism of action, especially with regard to bacterial cell wall biosynthesis processes. A particular focus is on mode-of-action analyses of novel, cell wall-active compounds. Through detailed analysis of previously insufficiently characterized active substances, structure-activity relationships are to be elucidated and starting points for the targeted optimization of promising derivatives are to be created.
