During my bachelor’s studies, I worked in the microbiology division of a medical diagnostic center, where I gained firsthand insight into pathogens, infections, and the growing challenge of multidrug resistance in clinical isolates. This experience motivated me to pursue medical and pharmaceutical microbiology at the University of Bonn, deepening my understanding of antibiotic mechanisms and resistance development. My PhD research focuses on antimicrobial peptides secreted by eukaryotes and prokaryotes, which represent a potential source of new antimicrobial development. Subsets of these peptides, such as defensins and bacteriocins respectively, have been observed to exhibit antimicrobial activities against a broad range of pathogens. Within this context I am currently working on several projects and peptides all focusing on the elucidation of the mode of action of inhibitors targeting the cell wall biosynthesis pathway on a whole cell approach.
